Miss Janine Laidlow
Former Soloist with the Cape Town City Ballet
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Janine has trained in both Vagoniva and RAD methods receiving Honors for all her exams from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2. In 1993 along with her family Janine immigrated to Canada where she continued her ballet training attending the National Ballet School Yearly Program and the professional program at the Richmond Academy of Dance.
After graduating in 2002 she moved to the USA to dance with the Bristol Ballet under the directorship of Nadia Thompson former principal with Boston Ballet and current ballet mistress the New Zealand Ballet. In 2005 Janine moved back to South Africa to join the Cape Town City Ballet where she earned the title of Soloist Dancer.
During her career Janine has performed leading roles in many ballets including, Odile in Swan Lake, Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Nikiya in la Bayadere, Gulnare in le Corsaire, Hera in Orpheus in the Underworld, Aegina in Spartacus, Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, Myrtha in Giselle, Paquita in Paquita as well as leading roles in Carmen, les Sylphide, la sylphide, Firebird, Cinderella, Raymonda and Romeo and Juliet
Since retiring her pointe shoes and re-locating back to British Columbia Janine has made the transition from dancer to instructor and choreographer giving her the opportunity to pass on her love and passion for ballet to students all around the lower mainland. Her teaching career has included positions at Absolute Dance Academy, Vanleena Dance Academy, Fraser Valley Academy of Dance, Dynamic Dance, Creative Outlet, Avant Dance Co. and Richmond Arts Centre. The students Janine has trained have been accepted into world class Ballet Schools including Boston Ballet, National Ballet, Royal Winnipeg, Alberta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, and The Royal Ballet to name a few.
Besides teaching open ballet and pointe classes, Janine has trained and prepared students for RAD exams from Primary to Solo Seal in which all her students received excellent results. She has also choreographed solos, duos and groups for local and International Competitions with a high success rate and has be honored with Ballet Routine of the Year at 6 competitions over the past two years as well as receiving three choreography awards.
